Student Email Migration FAQ
These questions were brought forward by the Student Government Association (SGA) during their meeting on September 17. They reflect common concerns from students about the upcoming transition from Google to Microsoft email and productivity tools. Below are the questions discussed, along with responses from IT and administrative staff.
Access on Campus Computers
Q: Will Microsoft accounts automatically be accessible and integrated on school computers for students?
A: They will not be. The computers auto-login currently, though this may change down the road. Student Worker access will be allowed upon request by an employee.
Workshops & Training
Q: Would it be possible to hold an introductory workshop (or create a quick tutorial) so students know how to navigate and use Microsoft tools effectively?
A: We will be creating solution articles that address common questions and provide step-by-step guidance on using Microsoft tools effectively. These resources will serve as quick tutorials to help students get started and troubleshoot on their own. For any additional questions or issues, students can contact us directly at support@curry.edu or submit a ticket through our support portal at support.curry.edu.
Quick Links
Q: Could quick link access (like a dashboard button) to Microsoft services be added, possibly on the MyCurry portal?
A: There is and will continue to be a Microsoft Office link in the QuickLinks section of the MyCurry Portal.
Rollout Timeline
Q: How will this rollout work, and when will it officially take effect?
A: There will be extensive communication around the rollout, including—most likely—its own Knowledge Base (KB) article.
Account Security
Q: Since Microsoft is generally more secure than Google, are there any additional steps being taken to prevent or reduce the chance of students getting locked out of their accounts?
A: Microsoft provides tools that allow students to recover their accounts. It’s important that students set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and remember to update it when they change phones.
Password Reset
Q: Will students be able to reset their Microsoft password on their own without having to call the helpdesk?
A: Yes, students will be able to reset their password on their own without having to call the helpdesk. You can reset your password by clicking "forgot password" on the Microsoft login page
